Cherise M. Newsome
Cherise M. Newsome is vice president for communications and marketing. She joined the Foundation staff in 2019 as director for multimedia communications. She previously served as director of communications for Portsmouth Public Schools, managing division-wide communications and marketing, executive and crisis communications, media relations, and public affairs. She previously worked as a journalist with The-Virginian Pilot newspaper, covering education and municipal government. Cherise earned a bachelor of arts degree in theology with a minor in English from Georgetown University where she was a Hampton Roads Community Foundation scholarship recipient. She is currently pursuing an MBA from the College of William & Mary. She holds a certificate of nonprofit management from the Academy for Nonprofit Excellence at Tidewater Community College. In the community, Cherise volunteers as president of the Norfolk Council of PTAs and is a voting delegate of the Virginia and National PTAs. She also is a founding member of the Black-led Visionaries for Change giving circle.
