Support Black nonprofits during Black History Month and beyond

As Black History Month wraps up, don’t let it be the end of learning about the achievements and contributions of Black people in our region and world.

At the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, we support nonprofit organizations helping to make the region a thriving and more equitable community for all. Black-led nonprofits play a key role in that effort.

For the first time ever, the Foundation awarded nearly $1 million in grants to 30 local Black nonprofit organizations last year as a part of its commitment to racial equity.

This commitment involves confronting unfair and unjust policies and practices that persistently limit opportunities for Black people in the region.

The grant funding came from the Black Community Partnership Fund, which the Foundation launched in 2020 thanks to a $1 million gift from Facebook to support Black nonprofits. The Foundation awarded grants to nonprofits with a majority Black board of directors, executive leadership and/or staff, and that primarily serve Black people.

Want help finding Black-led nonprofits to support? There are many in Hampton Roads, including those listed below that got grants from the Foundation.

Whether it’s sharing their social media content, donating to their cause, or volunteering, we all can do something to support them during Black History Month and beyond.
