Partners in Philanthropy: A special message from our President & CEO and Board Chair
Look at what Hampton Roads and the community foundation accomplished together in the past year:
- $1.25 million for COVID-19 response and recovery grants
- $23 million+ paid in grants to nonprofits and scholarships for students
- $16.5 million+ donated for current and future charitable causes
Beyond the dollars, collective philanthropy provides an opportunity to address complex needs in the region.
Our recent annual report - Together in Philanthropy - chronicles the ways nonprofits and donors worked with the community foundation in 2020 to help Hampton Roads to thrive through philanthropy.
For example, the community foundation leveraged partnerships with groups like United Way of South Hampton Roads to quickly deploy resources to people and sectors hit hardest by the pandemic.
Along with other civic groups, the community foundation stepped in to support Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters with a $1 million grant for the state’s first youth mental health hospital.
In the wake of racial and social conflict, we convened regional leaders and community members in forums on race and the history of race and launched a grant program with Virginia Humanities called Beneath the Surface.
Now more than ever, our commitment to racial equity is vital. In the report you will find an overview of our efforts to ensure a more equitable and thriving community for all as well as opportunities for you to get involved.
Throughout this report, you will see the myriad ways donors, community members, and civic leaders work collaboratively to transform neighborhoods, organizations, and communities through their gifts, talents, and time.
We invite you to join us on this journey.
Together, we can create a better future for Hampton Roads through philanthropy.
