Other Scholarships Affiliated with Us; No applications Please
The following scholarships are also administered by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation but have different application and selection processes than the scholarships listed on our undergraduate scholarships page.
Please look this list over and see if you find a scholarship below for which you are eligible. In most cases, you should apply directly to the institution named.
John "Max" Bennis Scholarship. For a graduating senior at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach who will be attending college or trade school. Students must be nominated by school faculty. We do not accept applications.
James Harry Charleton Valedictorian Scholarship. For the valedictorian at Granby High School in Norfolk. This is a one-year award.
Edwards Family Isle of Wight Scholarship Fund. For high school seniors from Isle of Wight County. Preference is given to students attending a four-year college. Recommendations are made by the Edwards Scholarship Committee. Applications are available in the guidance offices of high schools in Isle of Wight by mid-January.
Metro Machine Scholarship Fund. For students from St. Helena Elementary School and Campostella Elementary School in Norfolk who achieve specific reading level milestones in the Accelerated Reader ® program. Funds were contributed by the former Metro Machine Corporation when the student met the requirements and are held by the Foundation until the student graduates from high school and enrolls in a college or university.
John H. and Annie C. Miles Memorial Scholarship. For students from Mathews County, Virginia with a preference for students who have lived, or whose parents have lived, in Mathews County for at least 10 years. Recipients are recommended by Oriental Lodge No. 20. Applications are available in the Mathews High School guidance office each fall.
Private School Scholarships
The following funds are used to support students attending private primary and secondary schools.
Charles F. Burroughs Memorial Scholarship. For students at Norfolk Academy. We do not accept applications. All recipients are selected by school officials.
George Chamberlaine Memorial Scholarship. For students at Norfolk Academy. We do not accept applications. All recipients are selected by school officials.
Everette Holland Griffin and Edith Pittman Griffin Memorial Scholarship. For deaf or blind students from South Hampton Roads for primary, secondary or post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students from Western Tidewater and specifically Isle of Wight County. Parents seeking support for a child to attend a private primary or secondary school may send an email to scholarships@hamptonroadscf.org after December 1 to request an application. Applications are due by March 1. Recipients will be required to submit documentation of medical disability. Applicants for college scholarships should follow the application process for undergraduate students.
Lewis K. Martin II, M.D. and Cheryl Rose Martin Scholarship Fund. For Virginia residents pursuing secondary education at Salem Academy (Winston-Salem, NC). Parents may send an email to scholarships@hamptonroadscf.org after December 1 to request an application. Applications are due by March 1. This scholarship is also available for students attending Davidson College (Davidson, NC), Salem College (Winston-Salem, NC) or University of Virginia School of Medicine. Students interested in applying for a scholarship to attend one of those schools should complete online application process for undergraduate students or for graduate students.
William A. and Lucille W. Sawyer Memorial Scholarship. For students in need of financial aid at Norfolk Collegiate School. We do not accept applications. All recipients are selected by school officials.
Taylor Brothers Fund for Scholarships. For students at Norfolk Academy. We do not accept applications. All recipients are selected by school officials.
Designated Scholarships
The following funds provide grants to the designated schools for the purpose of providing scholarships. School officials select the recipients in all cases. We do not accept applications.
Macon and Joan Brock Scholarship Fund for Randolph-Macon College. For students from Hampton Roads attending Randolph-Macon College.
Charles F. Burroughs Memorial Scholarship. For students at Union Presbyterian Seminary (Richmond, Virginia). Recipients must be residents of Virginia or North Carolina.
Mabel C. Burroughs Memorial Scholarship. For students at Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, Virginia). Recipients must be residents of Virginia or North Carolina.
Friedrich Ludwig Diehn Fund. For music students at Old Dominion University.
Robert C. Nusbaum Scholarship Fund. For Norfolk State University Honors College students.
Margarette H. Old Student and Nurse Educational Fund. For nursing students at Sentara College of Health Sciences.
